Varroa

06/09/2012 By Maria

Woke up to a cloudy sky this morning. Went to say Hello to the bees, they are quieter today, due to the weather. I have been checking the Varroa mite on the board for the last few days, today is the first time I have noticed Varroa on it!

I have thought about using the sugar – Sugar dusting, as it is called but  not sure whether there is right or wrong time to use it, if I do, can I use any other treatment if this does not work and how soon after can I use it. I think I might have to read up on it.

Seems like the bees are picking up the last lot of pollen/nectar about, we have autumn crocuses in the fields now, some of the plants in the garden are still providing nectar for them, we have a really nice clematis which is flowering this time of the year so few flowers here and there. There is also fruit bushes with ripe and over-ripe fruit which they seem to “munch” on.

Once I have got the treatment and have good enough weather to treat them I will blog some pictures of the action.
