A very good day, …

Started off going for a walk to Vratna, took off reasonably early for our trek  to Sokolie. The sky looked a bit grey here and there, air was cool with a little breeze whistling through the country side. What a beautiful walk it was, last time we walked it, was sometimes last year, must have been autumn as I remember the trees and their beautiful colours. The beginning is pretty strenuous as you are continuously climbing but once at the top it is a piece of cake with a cherry on top  due to the beauty that surrounds you! On the way back we walked through the river and found a place for Roxy to have a swim, which was great as she loves it and does not get to do it at home as there is nowhere for her to do so.

Later we “painted” some ants on our newly painted steps outside, I think they look wicked.    My imagination is working overtime as there is one more place, a wall, were things can be added to – just what?

Bees – so far I have only peeped in from the top, they look all right, seems like the 7 frames out off 12 have stores in, not sure whether all are capped. The other frames have been built up by them but nothing else. I have tried to wipe the front of the hive today as we were strimming around them yesterday, managed to get some of the grass off but the bees started to come out and actually flew directly onto the cloth so I decided to back off. So far they have been fine with the strimmer and mower, they don’t seem to mind. Except when I crashed into the leg of their stand 2nd time round they came out to do a bit more than just investigate. That was a bit much to expect, no reaction once somebody rattles your house a few times. Air is definitely cooler now, planning to turn the varroa floor around so I close it in, thinking about putting the block in the entrance to reduce it. They are still busy collecting pollen and honey, the fields around us have still got flowers plus the clover that was cut couple of months ago has grown and is flowering again, and I have got a few flowers around the garden. I have not fed or treated them with anything yet.

Oh and we did go mushrooming earlier this week, walked for 3 hours, it was the hottest day of the month, about 23 degrees by 9 o’clock, we did not find a single mushroom. But walked through lovely countryside.  We will have to get some rain before we go next time.

Happy days, ..
