First Spring Inspection

This is it. We started off today with a gentle frost on the ground this morning and finished with temperatures in their teens. I have been waiting for a warm day so I can have a look, closer look, at my bees and today was the day. At about 10am I put my gear on, started the smoker and got ready.

Took the lid off, had a quick look at the super, all frames built on, with stores in about 5-6 not totally full frames. Put the super across on the lid and had a look at the Brood box. Bees not too happy about the intrusion, started to get a bit windy they were getting a bit uneasy about me, the first 3 frames have not been built at all, there is darker yellow empty foundation 4,5 and 6 started to have some capped cells. I did not see any eggs, or the Queen, as the wind got up and I saw the bees flapping their wings I decided to close it up. The wind was very cold, although the sun was nice. But I did not find anything too alarming except for no eggs but they could have been on the rest of the frames in the Brood box. Did  not see any Queen cells or Drone cells. Will check again next week, weather permitting.

I have also added Floor, Brood box and a Lid next to the existing hive as a bait hive for a swarm.

Adding pictures of the bees today, they are very busy going out and foraging, collecting pollen as you can see they are doing their job or so it seems.
